Acne is a nagging problem especially for women, with its surprising appearance and the lasting scars that it leaves behind. Irrespective of your dislike for it, acne appears during the teenage years of most people and considerable effort is needed for fighting these ugly looking marks and stopping them from reappearing.

Acne is caused due to a reaction between bacteria and sebum discharged by the glands present in skin, giving rise to an infection. When this infection is being healed, a protein named collagen is produced under the skin. On the level of collagen falling low, small depressions are created on the skin and on its amount being too high, distinct protrusions appear. Either of these eventualities can give rise to acne scars. Adolescents are typically more prone to acne infection as their hormones rise all of a sudden at the time of puberty leading to more sebum secretion.

Some of the general causes of an acne infection are usage of cosmetic products that do not suit the skin type, intake of contraceptive pills and drugs, and other genetic factors. Various other reasons such as mental tension, improper food habits, and even pollution can result in acne. However, contrary to common belief, there is no scientific connection between oily or fast food and acne.

Although a number of creams and herbal skin care products are sold in the market to cure acne, it is better to take medical help if the condition worsens or continues recurring. Avoiding pressing the acne or poking it with any sharp object is a must to avoid worsening of acne.

An increasing number of people are also opting for cosmetic treatments to get rid of acne scars and to regain a spotless skin. Along with surgical procedures and laser treatment that are two of the most effective cures in making acne scars disappear, there are numerous other innovative therapies too. You must consult a good skin doctor or skin surgeon who can assess the skin type you possess and recommend a suitable treatment.
